Recent census data collected by the National Institute of
Mental Health (NIMH), and the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) have
reported that close to 1 in 5 individuals currently suffers form mental
illness, and that the most common condition, "Anxiety Disorders" have
peaked. Fully 28.8% of us will experience impairment in functioning as a
direct result of anxiety in our lifetimes. Add to this the steady rise in
suicide rates now trending upward with a 24% increase over the past 15 years,
and it's rank as the second leading of cause of death among individuals ranging
from 10 to 34 years of age; and one can see the need for a more advanced
approach to understanding and treating these highly prevalent conditions.
Our experience in successfully treating complex mental health conditions is complemented by our understanding of another major problem: Substance Abuse. Here our goal is to reduce or eliminate our patients dependence on Alcohol and/or "drugs". Government sources like the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Agency (SAMHSA) reported in 2014 that over 20 million individuals needed treatment for their primary substance abuse issues. Combining this number with the 46 million individuals requiring mental health services we can see how these conditions can represent a national crisis or "epidemic".
